Xfx Radeon Hd 6950 Specs5/2/2021
Weve found that synthetic benchmarks such as FurMark thrash the GPU constantly, which simply isnt reflective of how GPU will be used when gaming. Its such a hardcore test that any GPU under test is almost guaranteed to hit its thermal limit, the mark at which the cards firmware will kick in, speeding up the fan to keep the GPU within safe temperature limits.Conversely, simply leaving a game like Crysis running at a certain point also isnt reflective of real world use.
Theres no guarantee that the GPU is being pushed as hard as other titles might do, and the load will vary from play through to play through. Eventually then, weve decided to use 3DMark06s Canyon Flight test as a real world representative, repeatable graphics test. Its a ferociously demanding test, pushing graphics cards to their limit, but also containing peaks and troughs in performance that match real world game play. As the test is so demanding and GPU limited, weve set 3DMark to run the test at 1,280 x 1,024 with 0xAA and 16xAF (enabled in the driver), constantly looping the test for thirty minutes and recording the maximum power consumption and GPU Delta T (the difference between the temperature of the GPU and the ambient temperature in our labs). Also, the temps arent great: idling at 50C, going well into 80C and over under load. I dont get paid for this lol) So what I did next was to buy the Cooling Accelero TwinTurbo Pro II Graphics Card Cooler. Now the hottest my card ever has gotten is around 60 degrees on load and around 30 degrees on idle. Overall this card is really good and youre going to get pretty much the same temps with this sort of graphic cards. FYI: If youre looking for a CPU cooler you might want to try out the Noctua NH-D14. Its a beast. Also make sure your RAM MOBO are compatible if your ram is too tall you can probs remove the heat sinks which you dont really need. If anyone needs a bit of info let me know I will try to help. Well worth the money, plays everything in the gaming market at the moment. Others have already written about the performance, so I wont go into details. With this card its giving 60fps (using Fraps and it doesnt seem to go beyond 60fps) average with occasional dip to 50fps. BUT oh my goodness the NOISE The fan was like a drill on concrete past 60 rpm, and got louder and louder as it endured a 3DMark test. My heart sank. Totally unliveable-with, wondered if it was faulty. After a skim of forum posts it looked like it could be loose fan mountings. Whipped the card out, flipped it over and yep, 2 of the screws on the outer edge of the card were a little loose. ![]() Deffo recommend it for the price (160 ish), if you have noise probs, check the screws. But careful - dont touch the little stickered void if removed ones. Got a new case coming, which should really help the cooling, and therefore the fan speed and noise. EDIT: After a day of use in new case - bad news - The buzz has gone since I tightened the screws, but the fan is still really noisey.
